In the forthcoming release of Nike SB’s The SB Chronicles Vol. 3, Eric Koston and Lance Mountain discuss the importance of Skate Films and how the introduction of video recording helped drive their careers. Mountain and Koston both point out that skaters before their time were judged by their ability to perform in contests, where their skills were only recognized by those in attendance. They explain that videos are like “historical documentation.” Making it possible to transcend geographical boundaries. Camcorders and skate videos by association, have allowed skaters to find fame outside of the confines of skate contests.
