Legal Highs have become the Alcohol for underage kids, with every town in England having its own Legal High shops, Today however is the beginning of the restrictions on the consumption of Legal highs in public. Lincoln, an East Midlands Cathedral town has today imposed a ban on Legal highs being consumed in public after Lincoln Council voted a public spaces protection order’ (PSPO) in, the ban extends to all activities that “have had a detrimental effect on the quality of life of those in the locality”. Basically the Ban means that Local police now have power to confiscate the substances and give fines to those breaking the order.

Legal highs, substances that give the same effects as illegal drugs, have been a big debate in the UK recently. The government have already banned over 500 types of legal high but, as manufacturers simply tweak the recipe and make them legal again, ministers have said they want to bring in a new law based on the effect of the drug rather than what it contains.

The passing of the vote in Lincoln has already seen the two Legal High ‘Head shops’ close down so will it just make illegal drugs like cannabis more attractive or will people have more house parties?
