As the man responsible for much of the iconic shoes in history, including the Air Max and Air Jordan family, much of the footwear industry has Tinker Hatfield to thank. Foot Locker Europe caught up with Hatfield to pick the designer’s brain on his favourite sneaker model of all time, and it isn’t an Air Max! When it comes to his personal favourite, the Jordan XI reigns supreme.
“Because [Michael Jordan] was retired during the design of the XI, I was really driven to put more effort than ever into the performance and innovation of that shoe,” Hatfield says in the clip below. “The carbon fibre plate, the speed lacing system, materials that were actually lighter weight. It’s my favourite shoe of all-time, and probably one of the most important performance-enhanced designs ever done for the sport,” he adds.
