When we think of racial tensions between black and whites, the majority of us would think of the era of the apartheid. However, with the recent news of US white police officer Darren Wilson not being prosecuted for the murder of unarmed black 18 year old Michael Brown. It has caused worldwide outrage and further created tension between the black and white communities; spreading from across the pond to the UK. This isn’t the first time something like this has occurred – e.g. the shooting of Trayvon Martin (2012) or closer to home, the murder of Mark Duggan in North London (2011).
Tupac’s famous words “It ain’t about black or white, ‘cause we‘re human”. Is thatnot enough? We are human. We belong to the same species, we occupy the same earth. Why is it that in the year of 2014 there is still prejudice and a constant battle to be the “superior race”? Whether you are black, white, Asian green or blue when you bleed – you bleed red. How much more spilled blood will it take for the world to realise this?
