With Amazon Studios gaining considerable recognition last year through the release of TV series Transparent, they are now capitalising on this success with plans to release a Spike Lee directed movie, Chiraq. The film which will feature big names such as Kanye West, Samuel Jackson, Jeremy Piven and Common, was announced via The Wrap and has many people talking already. While details on the project are few and far between, there are many rumours around what the plot will involve.

The term Chiraq came into popularity during Chicago Rapper Chief Keef’s rise to prominence back in 2012. While many rappers relied on flashy music videos, Chief Keef and his 300 crew went viral with a number of guerilla style music videos featuring a life of guns and violence. The term has been associated to Chicago and it’s similarities to Iraq with an increase in aforementioned gun violence.

With the film in it’s initial stages, it will be interesting to see who else gets involved and what the plot has to offer. Keep it locked to TRAPPED for all info…
