Novelist targets political agenda with ‘Street Politician’

Opening with the very bold statement of “We will not allow a culture of fear to exist on our streets.” shows that Street Politicians’ is not exactly a shy track, but then again Novelist isn’t exactly a shy artist, and he has no difficulty expressing his distaste for political agenda on his first track of 2016.

Prime Minister David Cameron has two quotes sampled, once at the beginning and on the hook throughout the track. The quote on the hook, “keeping people safe is the first duty of the government”, is implemented in a mocking way, only further illustrating Nov’s displeasure.

The production on the hook itself (produced by Novelist and Nick Hook) tells a sombre tale of an angry, fed up citizen through the use of hard hitting baselines and the sounds of police sirens and gun shots, and provides the perfect backdrop for the rage and aggressiveness that the Lewisham emcee displays.

An attitude of hate towards the police is notable on the track, but at the very end Novelist spits “fuck everyone in the world who don’t want me to be vocal”, highlighting hostility towards anyone who’s political agenda discreetly represses the ‘little man’s voice’.

Over the last few months Nov has dropped both ‘Linking Gash’ and ‘Endz, Endz’ receiving heaps of praise for its nostalgia influenced video. ‘Ignorant and Wot’ was also released, combining hypnotising production and impeccable flow both from the artist himself.

Novelist’s debut album is dropping at some point in 2016 and is set to be self-produced alongside Grandmixxer.
