London-based set designer and illustrator ‘Gary Card’ opens his first solo exhibition at Dalston’s Eternal Youth.
Abandoned Amusement Park Attraction is pretty darkside , Gary used over 300 rolls of masking take to create his own distorted interpretations of iconic cartoon figures.
Gary has been commissioned by some of the biggest brands in the game such as Topshop, Uniqlo, United Colors of Benetton and for magazines such as Vogue, Dazed & Confused and i-D. Not to mention his collaboration with Lady Gaga.
“Abandoned Amusement Park Attraction is an idea that I loved,” says Gary. “The idea of something recognizable, like a cartoon character, being warped in some way. Taking them out of context, putting these cartoon shapes somewhere that you wouldn’t normally see them, is something I’m really excited about.”
So if Tim Burton rather than Disney is more your thing then this is right up your street.
Abandoned Amusement Park Attraction is now open at Eternal Youth, 378 Kingsland Road, London, E8 4AA.
