Lexus has finally made the dream of every child of the 80’s come true, finally they’ve made the hoverboard. That’s right, Lexus has created the very first working prototype hoverboard. Although they’re still years away from designing an actual hover car, Lexus had decided to see just how far they can go with hover technology; and it’s safe to say they’ve come pretty far. Similar to the many other hoverboard prototypes before, the way the board hovers is through the use of very cold and of very strong magnets. Lexus has bested the usual limitations of heat and weight that is added when a rider is on using it, by using liquid nitrogen superconductor-cooled magnets, similar to that seen on Japan’s magnetic-levitation trains which is what produces the cooled smoke flowing out the board’s sides.
Lexus’ Executive VP Mark Templin stated that,
“It’s the perfect example of the amazing things that can be achieved when you combine technology, design, and imagination”.
Although the board isn’t currently for sale as it hasn’t been perfected or been proven to be safe, it is capable of supporting a rider of up to 250-pounds and floats about half an inch above ground. Lexus is scheduled to release more information on October 21, 2015, which if any one remembers from the movies, it’s the day Marty, and his girlfriend went back to the future with Doc.
