The Modelling Industry has evolved dramatically since the introduction of Social media, from updating its talent searching techniques to even how the models monetise their work. Social media followings are now a a sure fire way of getting a modelling contract with an agency and jobs are booked on those merits instead of more traditional methods such as portfolios and castings. Frank Spadafora, a former casting director and the founder and CEO of D’Marie Archive (a website for people in the industry to measure, manage and monetise their social media portfolio) spoke with CR Fashion Book to shed some light on how the rapidly-evolving system works.

Kendall Jenner, Cara Delevigne, and Gigi Hadid are currently the top three ranked supermodels on Social media and “are currently valued between $125,000 (around £80,000 at today’s exchange rate) and $300,000 (£200,000) for a single post across their portfolio. If you want to reach a model’s audience, you’re going to have to pay a hefty additional fee for that.” Other popular super models such as Karlie Kloss, Behati Prinsloo and Miranda Kerr are earning “between £17,000) to £34,000 for a single post across Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram” These last words from Frank are the most informative and show that Modelling is not just about being a pretty face.

“As far as commercialising a career, a girl won’t get very far in 2016 if she’s not socially savvy,” Spadafora goes on to say. “Can I say that you can be a big star without a social media presence? I’m not encouraging it.”
