Yesterday was the 5th Fresh Laces Sneaker event which took place on the 2nd floor menswear department of Harvey Nichols in Manchester. The team have been grinding hard ever since their first event in London’s Apres Bar in June 2013 and most recently have opened their very own Boutique department in the Harvey Nichols Flagship Department store in London’s Knightsbridge.
We decided to make the journey up North to check out the sneakers and UK streetwear on display from Dimension London, Mr Sneaker, The Fresh Laces table Sultan Est, I Want your Sole and some pieces from Yokes Menswear. As we have come to expect from this event the quality of kicks was very high, there were Yeezy’s on display, Nike Air Max independence Day’s, rare OG Jordans as well as some recent releases from adidas, ASICS, PUMA and other dope brands. complimenting the sneakers were stalls from Kick Posters with their amazing adidas logo’s Nike Air Yeezy images and the latest adidas x Kanye West Yeezy ‘750 Boost’ poster, Lace Jam, Mr Snappy with live demonstrations of how a custom snapback is made and custom sneaker pieces from the creative minds of Triplezed, Ashton Springer, Carmeno Customs and Karla Cornwell.
Another important element of the Fresh Laces events is the vibe, which as usual was turnt up!  with loads of networking and positive conversation about the sneaker scene taking place, there were a lot of familiar faces there such as The King of Trainers, Sole Love, Lemai Lemaow (from Ill Sessions), Davo Howarth and From Virginia Ben, all of whom were vibesing to live music from DJ 10 Faces, DJ Jden and DJ Melody Kane with a standout Live PA from UK Rapper XO Man.
One of our favourite things to see at a Fresh Laces event is their selection of Streetwear and accessories, which as the Sneaker culture in the UK has expanded has become interlinked in a big way, Benjart Clothing, Play Dot apparel, Footballa, Elisha Francis London, VA Garments and Kurtis Cameron all had new collections on show as well as their signature pieces.  It was good to see an adverse mix of tailored, cut and sew, luxury tracksuits and Bold Logo pieces, including premium leather and vinyl all under one roof.
