Following the closure of their iconic and infamous pirate radio station, London’s hottest garage crew, Kurupt FM, are diving headfirst into a new era with their brand new single, ‘Dreaming’.
The track sees MC Grindah – alongside Birmingham heavyweights JayKae and MIST – delivering bars that will inspire generations to come; a trifecta of top tier talent uniting to urge legions of fans to chase their passions and make dreams a reality.
Produced by FRED, Joy Anonymous & Sid Stone, the track pays homage to Gabrielle’s 1993 R&B classic ‘Dreams’ and follows the Brentford collective’s Craig David collaboration ‘Summertime’ – which Clash magazine called “a straight up UKG smash.”
The aspirational themes of ‘Dreaming’ are brought to life by William Child, of Bristol-based studio Gravy Mercedes, who provides a stop motion epic that joins Kurupt FM, JayKae and MIST as they race to the Champagne Steamroom Arena for an imminent sold-out show. En route the crew see their dreams actualised: Grindah runs a political campaign including a ban on house music, a big catch from stepson little Craig brings a tear to Beats’ eye, Steves envisages his own weed farm, while the skyline is filled with the skyscrapers of Chabuddy G’s successful business ventures.
“This track is what happens when your dreams come true and Kurupt FM get on a track with JayKae and MIST. Your dream is now a reality, ur welcome, also the video was done by our mate William Child who is actually a full-grown man”
JayKae has been a prominent member of the Birmingham grime scene since he first picked up a mic in 2009. His 2017 single ‘Toothache’ attracted global attention when it appeared in the Netflix series Power, and he achieved a UK number one single alongside Ed Sheeran, Stormzy and Aitch for 2019’s ‘Take Me Back To London’. Most recently, JayKae has been dominating our soundwaves; his latest track, ‘1000 Nights’, a collaboration with UK songstress Jorja Smith from his upcoming debut album ‘Hooligan’, has garnered high acclaim, boasting over 800,000+ views on YouTube in its first month alone.
MIST made history when his 2018 ‘Diamond In The Dirt’ EP charted in the UK Official Top 5. The project boasted features from Nines, Mr. Eazi, MoStack and Jessie Ware, and carved a name for him as a rapper with substance and credibility. Following his most recent release, ‘Rollin’ featuring Nigerian hitmaker Burna Boy, MIST has also recently been announced as the host of BBC Three’s new celebrity adrenaline challenge series: ‘Gassed Up’.
‘Dreaming’ is the second single from Kurupt FM’s forthcoming debut album The Greatest Hits (Part 1). The hotly anticipated record boasts all new music from the crew, including guest appearances from the cream of the crop of the UK industry, and will be released via Polydor Records on August 20th.
Alongside the new album, with an iconic cover shot by Ewen Spencer, Kurupt FM will be releasing the feature film adaptation of their two-time BAFTA-winning BBC comedy series which will be released in cinemas August 18th. People Just Do Nothing: Big In Japan follows Grindah, Beats, Chabuddy G, Steves and Decoy as they begin their journey to international stardom, after hearing the news that one of their songs has been used on a popular Japanese game show.
“You know me, I can sell anything mate,” says Kurupt FM manager Chabuddy G, of the experience. “Ice to an Eskimo, halal meat to a racist vegan… selling garage music to Japan is water off a duck’s beak mate.”
