Hip-Hop Cleans Up At The VMAs

The VMAs may have confirmed last night that Hip-Hop is currently the most popular genre on the planet. It’s hard to deny Hip=hop culture is contagious. Whilst many who come under this category may argue about their respective genres overall it was a hugely successful night for Hip-hop.

Kendrick Lamar, Lil Uzi Vert, Young Thug and Kanye West all did their bit for the culture last night by picking up a combined total of 9 awards.

King Kenny who also performed; took the lions share of the recognition thanks to his visuals for Humble which included Video Of The Year, Best Hip-Hop, Best Cinematography, Best Direction, Best Art Direction & finally Best Visual Effects.

Lil Uzi Vert who’s album Luv Is Rage 2 dropped on Friday walked away with song of the summer for his infectious track XO Tour Life 3. Young Thug won the award for Best Editing with his Track Wyclef Jean. Yeezus rounded out the awards by taking Best Choreography,  though it was actually collected by Teyana Taylor for her performance for the Fade visuals.

Several Hip-Hop artists also performed at the 2017 VMAs which you can watch above. The standout performance may be the collaboration between Uzi and UK singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran. The pair combined two of their popular tracks XO Tour Life 3 and Shape Of You which you can watch above.

Regardless of if you enjoy the collaboration of not it is clear to see that Hip-Hop is getting the recognition it deserves for being a massive part of the culture for a number of decades.
