While many people may not know the artist known as Marvelous Southstar, his resume speaks for itself. The hip hop artist, who grew up in Portsmouth, has already released eight mixtapes worldwide and has an extensive and impressive back catalogue on YouTube, with his videos clocking up over 50,000 views. In 2012, the 29 year old rapper even featured on Charlie Sloth’s Fire in the Booth on Radio 1. With so much done in such a short space of time, it’s evident that Marvelous Southstar’s hustle cannot be doubted so is it time for him to blow? Today, TRAPPED look back at the past of the aspiring artist, relive his greatest hits and see what the future has to hold…

After dropping a string of mixtapes from 2007-2012, with the likes of UK Hip-Hop producer Stealf, DJ Hijack, Deadbeatz and Reeplay, Marvelous decided to move to London in 2013 in order to officially launch his music career. This led to the release of mixtape via DatPiff entitled ‘The Star Sign Mixtape’ on the CG Records label. The project was met with great success with the lead tracks ‘I Am Music’ and ‘Waiting on my Moment’ [feat. Jeremiah] getting a major buzz on social media.

His link with Californian based CG records gave Marvelous the platform to branch out into America, meaning he took time to build a fan base stateside and an extensive list of contacts to match. To this day, he maintains an interest and presence in places such as New York, Atlanta and LA, all due to his global marketability. However, when it came to the release of his first official single, he wanted to do it himself and released the track ‘The Wait is Over’ independently in February 2014. The record, which features singer/songwriter Jojo F, is a fast paced rap number with dance and EDM influences and was watched on YouTube over 25,000 times. 2014 also saw the release of his latest mixtape, ‘Into The Trap’ (http://www.datpiff.com/Marvelous-Southstar-Inside-The-Trap-mixtape.610651.html)

With 2015 nearly half way done, Marvelous Southstar is planning a comeback and the plan was set in motion with the release of his new hit, ‘Focused’. The track has already been picked up by various media outlets and has all the components to be an underground banger and also a chart hit. Marvelous is due to drop his next EP, Trapcity in July of this year so keep it locked to TRAPPED for all updates…
