Beef , Battling Clashing, sending, call it what you want has always been and always will be a part of Music from our culture, Rap, Grime, Trap etc and while the concept originates from the streets where conflict is usually violent and sometimes lethal the Music version of conflict is pure entertainment and competition. in 2015 we witnessed how social media is now being incorporated in Beef with the Meek Mill vs Drake Rap Beef in the states where Memes, Twitter and Instagram were used alongside Tracks and visuals.

In the UK the Music is still at the forefront of the beef, a prime example is the 2015 Grime Beef, Chip vs Bugzy. The two artists went back and forth with visuals and tracks and the public and Bugzy’s silence established Chip as the winner.

In 2016 things have changed slightly with artists taking lessons from their peers and upping their Music Beef Game. As you will know unless you have been zoneing out for the past week Sony signed Artist Yungen and the self proclaimed Grime scene saviour have kicked off another dope Grime Beef and this time they using comedy, memes and name dropping to boost their musical assaults lets take a look.

Chipmunk – One Take Freestyle (Subliminal Yungen Diss )

After mentioning Yungen in somewhat tame terms on his Bugzy & Tine Tempah Diss “96 Bars of Revenge” –

Say what I’m saying ain’t true some of your best newcomers ain’t new so if your gonna nominate Yungen big up but nominate Sneakbo too”

Yungen took offence at being mentioned and threw a shot in his track “Comfy” track –

“Man wanna talk about me at the Mobos like I aint earnt it, Man wana talk about my nomination like I don’t deserve it… Man wana bring me down I know man was happy with the verdict”.

Now Chipmunk likes to reflect and meditate on the meaning of subliminals and then prepare a response at the right time so when he was asked to do his One take freestyle he wasted no time in addressing the South Londoner. (Rumours are that the Tottenham artist promised he wouldnt diss Yungen but caught wind of a pre-recorded video that Yungen had recorded after learning Chip wasn’t too happy about Comfy.)

Yungen – Punk (Sh*tmunk Diss)

Yungen dropped this video within minutes of the one take freestyle and the beef officially started. The young 2015 MOBO best newcomer award nominee came strong with refernces to chip’s tune Pizza Boy and the fact that Meek Mill struggled to remember the artist name during an interview as well as a cameo from Chipmunks longstanding rival Tinie Tempah. Social Media and Youtube Comments went wild and then everybody held their breath for the Grime Beef Champ to reply.

Chip shot back with a photoshop image casting Yungen as Michelle in Destiny’s Child referring of course to the fact that Yungen is supposed to be a part of Krept and Konan’s Play Dirty Squad but never features on their projects or features on their tours and is rarely seen with them on social media. The use of this image is something new to UK Grime Beef and is most certainly an import from US artists like Drake and 50 cent who attack their opponents on a variety of social media platforms at the same time as putting out music to add insult to injury.

Chipmunk – Michelle Riddim ( Lil Clive Diss)

Of course Chip followed up the image with this lyrically focused Diss track going at Yungen with lyrical ferocity and a tinge of anger telling his fellow lightie to “Suck your Mum” and of course answering every single diss from Yungens diss ‘Punk’. The visual was kept minimal to enhance the expression of outrage and mockery that Chip delivered alongside a direct vilolation to Tinie Tempah in the form of an African accent mockery of the Sony signed Artist’s mums converstaion about Tinie accompanying chip on his first Tour. As expected the levels were kept very high and the Yungen fans were praying that the PD artist could deliver another attack.

Yungen – Oopsy Daisy Riddim ( Chip Diss )

Less than 24 hours later and Yungen hit back with a visual that resembled a comedy spoof more than a diss, playing on the strength of his diss to Chip that the artist drives a smart car Yungen is sitting on top of one whilst spitting bars to camera then he addresses Chips bars referring to spinning man out their loafers by throwing a pair of Maison Margiela sneakers into a dustbin only to have them retrieved at the end by his friend who runs off apparently imitating Chip running away from the Beef. An aggravating feature of this move by the South Londoner is that he tried to use Chipmunks original Oopsie Daisy track obviously without permission, something that could very well come back to bite him.

Chipmunk – L (Lil Clive Diss 2)

After watching the Yungen diss, Chip told his Twitter Timeline to stay awake his response was on its way and true to the 605k following he has, Twitter was alive for hours waiting on the reply. After Tweeting that the video would in fact be up at 9am Chip then previewed a clip on his Snapchat before dropping the finished product “L” an hour later and blaming its lateness on video director Quason Matthews. The visual is a myriad of special effects again produced to ensure the attention was focused on the lyrical assault. Chip has definitely been studying the Handbook of Musical Beef and learning lessons from Drake as he targeted a chink in Yungens armour a beef issue he has with Brixton Hill Rappers 67. The reference was a copy of Drizzy’s reference to AR-AB on his Meek Mill Diss “Back to Back” and was greeted by shock from fans praise from 67 and up until today no response at all from Yungen.

We will keep you updated on any developments in the Chip vs Yungen Grime Beef.
