U WOT BLUD? are a Forward thinking Bass music label Based in Hastings and run by our Resident Writer DJ Melinki, The label Provides a platform for talented new artists producers and Dj’s to breakthrough in to the mainstream. This interview is the second in a three part series of interviews where we find out about the labels three young producers, for part four DJ Melinki sat down with Forbid.

Tell us a brief history on yourself and how you got into music, did the dj’ing come first or the production?

I’ve been around House music and R&B pretty much since birth, my Mum and Dad we’re massive fans of House and R&B, all the classic stuff. Then I got into the more harder electronic music such as Dubstep, Moombahton, Drum & Bass, and started mess around with it on my Dad’s laptop. But I always had the thought of how brilliant it would be to press play and have y own track be behind that play button. But back then I was full of doubt haha, fast forward 1 year and I’m making my own shit and I’ve got support from some of the best people ever

Top 3 tunes of all time?

Oh god this is a tough one haha, probably:

Billy Kenny & Karl Allen – Got Me Runnin’ (A Lister Remix)

HNNY – Sneeze

Route 94 ft. Jess Glynne – My Love (Low Steppa Remix)

your weapons of choice for producing ? daw, vsts , hardware , speakers etc.

My weapons of choice pretty much consist of Native Instruments Massive, FL Studio and the stock plugins that come with it. I like the approach that you can do less with more, when I have too many things going on at once my head just gets crowded haha.

Your biggest achievement to date?

My biggest achievement to date is probably being able to make music in general. A year ago I didn’t even know how to program a basic drum loop let alone finish and release songs! But moreover I’m extremely grateful for the support and vibes that I get from friends and other producers alike, it keeps me on my feet lol.

What’s in store for the rest of this year and what’s your ultimate goal?

I don’t really have an ultimate goal, my goal at the beginning was to make music and make friends with good people via music, and I suppose I’ve already achieved that twofold

Anything else you want to mention?

Be humble, respect others, enjoy music from all different walks of life, be open to new experiences, and have a good f***ing time over all
