Virgil Abloh introduced his first Louis Vuitton collection at the Palais-Royale gardens on Thursday afternoon. The SS19 show saw stars such as Travis Scott, Chadwick Boseman, Kanye West, Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, Rihanna & Takashi Pom support from the front row. We also saw Virgil’s mates model for him such as Playboi Carti, Kid Cudi, ASAP Nast, Octavian & Dev Hynes. Guests were also gifted colourful T-shirts to wear, each relating to the colour of the corresponding section they were seated in, allowing them to blend in and become a part of the spectacle.

The 56 piece collection titled ‘Colour Theory’ featured Virgil’s signature touch that we’re all used to seeing over the years with one stand out piece, a double-breasted wool blazer fused with a white leather bib, pouch; a leather vest embossed with the ‘LV’ monogram & anoraks with an attached bum bag. Other stand out pieces featured lightweight, graphic-printed jackets, a sheer LV-emblazoned top and elongated, buttonless trench coats.

Virgil also took the signature LV bags such as the large Keepall, the Runner and the Petit-Malle bag & constructed them into red, green and iridescent plastic. Hanging off each bag were multicoloured chains which were also used as bracelets and necklaces worn by the models.

“The biggest goal for a first collection in any scenario is to start so that people can understand the new vocabulary,” he wrote on Instagram before the show, at which each attendee was left a dictionary on their seats, or “a liberal definition of terms and explanation of ideas”
