Last month we took a trip down to West London’s Nike SB sponsored skatepark Baysixtysix, to watch the qualifiers for the London AM Skate competition. As newbies to the skaters mecca we were feeling very out of place, but as soon as we got talking to people we found the staff, skaters and London Am judges very welcoming and genuinely eager to talk about the culture they love.

The competition had attracted skaters from all over the world as well as the UK’s finest Nike SB sponsored skaters, we got to see some amazing tricks from skaters such as Cameron Brooker, Tom Knox, Fernando Bramsmark and Tim Zom amongst others the day was very chilled with plenty of Redstripe, energy drinks and Banter flowing throughout the day.

The thing that was apparent at this competition was that although there were cash prizes of up to £2,500 up for grabs there was no tension between the skaters, everybody was cheering each other on and in between heats the skaters all sat together, there was no bad vibes and as we learnt from speaking to the skaters the skating community is one big family and they all look out for each other. After witnessing the action and talking with the skaters and Nike SB guy’s we will definitely be visiting the park more often.

The London AM competition lasted for two days and the final winner of the competition was UK Skater Tom Knox with Fernando Bramsmark taking second place and Tim Zom in third place.
