We first featured Essex MC Nick Brewer on TRAPPED last year when we featured ‘3 UK Rappers to watch out for’  in 2014. Since then, he has gone from strength to strength, with a new single featuring girl of the moment Bibi Bourelly (‘Talk To Me’), which is already flying high in the airplay charts. With his new found success, he took to 1Xtra to show that when it comes to lyricism and word-play Brewer can go toe to toe with the best of them.
His new video,‘Young Man Standing’ is simply an ode to grime, showing his love for the scene and how it has influenced him. The track is a cover of the Ruff Sqwad classic ‘Together’, which also featured the Godfather of Grime Wiley and appeared on the group’s Guns & Roses 2005 mixtape.
“Grime was the first genre of music I really became passionate about,” the Essex rhymer explains, “and I wanted to do a song just to show how important it’s been to me in my journey as a musician. I got into it when I was about 12, before it was even known as Grime and spent the majority of my teenage years buying and DJ’ing Grime records. I wanted this video to be a chance to pay homage to what I believe are some of the most important artists and instrumentals in Grime music. I picked Ruff Sqwad‘s ‘Together’ beat as it was always one of my favourites, and I think it perfectly captures emotion in a way that I feel only Grime music can.” Watch the video exclusively below, and download the track for free. Nick Brewer’s new single, “Talk To Me“, is also up for pre-order.
