Jordan Morris is a 19 year old Pop singer from North London, who already has the girls screaming his name and the artists from the UK scene queuing up to work with him. After having his debut single ‘No Rehab’ Ft Scrufizzer put him on the map, his latest offering ‘Taking your side’ see’s former N-Dubz Rapper Dappy bring his energy and attitude with him to add that extra touch to a vocal performance that belies both his years and experience. We caught up with the singer at the Drop Music event just before a live performance.

Define your Genre of Music?

Emotive, Vibey Pop with R&B vocal influences.

Ultimately Im a pop artists I grew up on people like D’angelo, Lemar, Beyonce and Maxwell but me, myself, I’m a pop artists although, hopefully you can hear those influences when I sing

Where do you get your inspiration for the Music that you put out?

A lot of the people around me inspire me, My mum, my dad, my siblings, my fans and my management. Anyone thats really doing their thing and living with happiness.

Who are your Top 3 Songwriters?

Frank Ocean, whoever wrote Michael Jacksons’ songs and Pharrell

What do you think of the UK scene?

UK are doing big things right now, I love how the UK scene is welcoming me in so far, there are a lot of great of energies. Theres a lot of UK artists that are loved in America as well, they cant get enough of UK right now, like the Sam Smith’s Ella Eyre’s Rudimental, Lianne La Havas. I definitely think UK Music is in a good place

Describe an average week in your life:

An average week is a lot of rehearsals and studio work , preparing for shows, photoshoots, going shopping, spending time with my family, and collecting my thoughts and chilling, I like to read and then doing this doing interviews and thinking of new ways to  promote myself.

What is the best piece of advice that you have been given since you began singing?

That success is a journey not a destination. It was nice hearing that we are always going thorough success and always achieving success in our daily lives and its not just one big milestone that we are all heading towards,

When you write tracks like taking your side, where do you imagine the listener to be when they hear it?

I think thats the beauty, of taking your side that it can be so widely perceived, like you can be listening in your bedroom, sitting and reflecting on the song because of the lyrics, delving into the meaning of the song, I’ve heard it in clubs, its banging its driving. You can be in your car, I’ve listened to it in the car, any situation really, the vocals are quite upbeat and high up so it drives that there is a deeper meaning behind the song so its quite widely received.

What was it like working with Dappy?

It was amazing, he’s definitely been an influence to me as he is local to me and comes from the same sort of place, for him to come on my track was huge, and there was a lot of parity he came on an energy of  “Yo I think you’re sick let’s do Music” and he bought all of his energy, he didn’t have to put in as much as he did so yeah full respect to him.

Thsi is a question for all of your female fans, What female in the UK industry do you have a crush on?

I think I have a crush on Leanne Lehavas, I listened to her album and I watched her perform and she just mesmorised me from her Music. The way she is on stage there’s just something about her.

What can we expect from you the rest of this year?

I’m just trying to put myself out there, allowing people to discover Jordan Morris as I discover myself,  I’m concentrating on putting out my singles, I’m gonna put out some solo stuff, we have been cooking up a lot of stuff and I’m excited to find out what my fans think of it.
