Having toured with the likes of Alicia Keys, Rudimental and Emeli Sandé, Jacob Banks is someone that has caught our attention recently at Trapped. The 24 year old London based singer songwriter, who has recently returned with the visuals to his incredible track “Monster” which premiered this week, has also worked on vocal projects with Wretch 32 and Chase and Status.
With a voice way beyond his years it comes to no surprise that his second EP ‘The Paradox’ received global support from the likes of The Fader, Spin, and BBC Radio 1. Jacob reveals his big break came when he won the MOBO Unsung competition and studio session with acclaimed British artist Plan B, who went on to mentor his early career.
His “MONSTER” track features his deeply soulful vocals and listeners will find Jacob’s sheer versatility apparent, whether that’s on an emotional R&B track or like ‘Move With You’, a retro-feeling, fast-paced boogie/doo-wop smash! It is clear that Jacob is unlike anyone else out there, giving a whole new take on modern R&B, soul and pop, Jacob is quickly proving to be one of his generations most interesting composers and lyricists.
When asked about his new visuals for track “MONSTER” Jacob explains that, “The video was fun to shoot because we weren’t supposed to be in the car park where it was shot, I felt like a grime MC which was always a dream of mine. It was shot in one take so there was a lot of organization, it was hilarious and frustrating but it’s always magic when you see a vision come to life. The song came about when I was going through a phase of understanding that sometimes you have to take what you want, and as much as I don’t like it, sometimes it’s my only option.” Check out his latest video “MONSTER” below.
