It’s coming to the time of year where the summer festivals are rolling around, you look in your wardrobe and realise that what you’ve been wearing for the last 6 months isn’t going to cut it when your busting shapes in the middle of a sweaty crowd. Here’s a quick list of festival essentials to make sure that no matter how bad your hangover is, you’ll always be looking fresh.

1 2-1

1. Bucket Hats:

Bucket hats have been making their way back for a couple of years now, but to avoid looking like Kevin and Perry, you’re going to want a decent brand one. These two from Fila and Palace are a perfect blend of vintage and contemporary styles, meaning the only thing to watch out for now is the annoying girl in the crowd who thinks she’s being cute when she takes it off your head.

2. Sunglasses

Sunglasses can be costly, but the chances of them getting trodden on in a mosh pit or you thinking it’s a good idea to throw them up to Skepta when you’re standing in the front row are quite high, so there’s no need to break the bank on a pair of festival shades. Vintage frames are onto a winner this season, so browse around your local thrift shop; thin frames are also stylish but just go for a thicker pair of wayfarers if you plan on using them after the festival season passes.

3. Long Sleeve Tee’s

Ditch the Hawaiian print shirts and wife beater vest this summer because no one cares about your gains, graphic tee’s and long sleeves are perfect for not only the warm weather inside the festival but also the chilly walk to the after-party or campsite after the headline act finishes. Go for a light pastel colour with a sleeve or back print to really make a statement this summer. Also has the added bonus of saving sun screen on your arms!

4. Shorts

2015 is the year of loud bottoms, plain tee’s with graphic trousers were big in spring and the same is to be said for shorts in summer. Whether you go for a repeated pattern print like these Fucking Awesome Pill shorts or minimalist sporty ones like the Nike Court Plaids, pair them with simple trainers and a top for an easy festival statement piece. And don’t worry about trying to get the shortest shorts like Joey Essex this year, airy sports shorts are much more practical and better looking.

5. Trainers

Festivals are never the place to wear your newest trainers or start stunting on people with a pair of J’s. Whatever shoes you wear are going to get battered so if you don’t have a pair of summer beaters about, grab some Stan Smiths or Vans Old Skools for half a tonne and beat some character into them over the summer months. Both these pairs of shoes are simple, stylish and will go with almost anything as well as being easy to clean and holding up very well with the rough and ready festival lifestyle.
