Double MOBO award winner Stormzy visits South Africa and explores ‘Qqom’ music in new documentary ‘From South London to South Africa’.It all began at this summer at Nando’s Music Exchange in London, where phenomenal South African DJ/producer Muzi invited UK Grime rapper Stormzy to explore his homeland after the two had bonded over PERi-PERi and beats. The workshop celebrated Nando’s South African roots as part of a two year partnership with the Roundhouse Project.

The ten minute long documentary ‘From South Africa to South London’ gives us a unique insight into Durban’s rising music scene where the taxi drivers are the music tastemakers and the taxis are the clubs! A taxi driver explains in the documentary “If your taxi isn’t playing loud Qqom music, people will not catch your taxi”. Muzi breaks it down for Stormzy and us here in the UK, “Qqom is like a sub-genre to house music”.
Stormzy is introduced to the people, genres and culture that helped shape the high energy, hard-edge electronic sound.

Muzi also introduces Stormzy to Rudeboyz, a Qqom producer trio. Stormzy describes it as ‘South Africa’s answer to Funky House’. Check out the full documentary below.
