The CEO of Apple, Tim Cook believes that Spotify and other streaming competitors are “draining the humanity out of music.”

In a recent interview with Fast Company Tim Cook shared these thoughts:

“We [at Apple] worry about the humanity being drained out of music, about it becoming a bits-and-bytes kind of world instead of the art and craft,” Cook tells Fast Company. According to Cook, the reliance on algorithms by many streaming services is to blame. To combat the move towards computerized selections, Cook is making a conscious effort to add a more organic, authentic feel to playlist curation. Instead of using computer-generated models, Apple Music relies on human tastemakers and curators to put together their own playlists. Spotify CEO Daniel EK dismissed Cook’s remarks, saying: “Music is everything we do all day, all night, and that clarity is the difference between the average and the really, really good.”
