adidas Originals have teamed up with three emerging London talents from London’s leading creative network YCN (You Can Now) for the relaunch of the iconic Superstar silhouette. A visual showcase of some of the shoe’s most innovative attributes dating back to 1969 – told through the contemporary lens of these young artists.

Championing the original technological advancements of the shoe, three leading London talents have brought to life the key sporting and performance innovations central to the construction of the Superstar. Connecting with illustrators Lauren Rolwing, Jack Hughes and YEHTEH, adidas Originals present diverging explorations of this iconic shoe. Deep rooted in basketball history, the Superstar was the first all-leather low top basketball shoe and one of the first to utilize the ‘herringbone’ outsole. The non-marking sole teamed with the sleek new low cut design gave an overall ‘clean’ aesthetic, and performance quality to the shoe.

Specialist consultant, Magdi Fernandes, an authority on basketball and sneaker culture consulted on the project – ensuring the visuals remained true to history, generating informed conversation around the shoes’ sophisticated design elements. Highlighting the infamous shell toe, herringbone sole and mixed materials that make the Superstar one of the most iconic and best-selling sporting silhouettes on the planet, these three contemporary visuals are testament to the Superstar’s roots in design and performance and its enduring appeal with so many audiences.
